National identity in music: this is the theme of the third GENUIN release by the splendid vocal formation Ensemble Nobiles. The program features rugged, beautiful, and truly unique works from Norway, Bohemia, and Finland. The composers Antonín Dvořák, Edvard Grieg, and Jean Sibelius are the fathers of the musical culture of their respective countries, each with his own unmistakable language that suffuses every note of this refined and sophisticated production. For the first time, the five singers from Leipzig are accompanied by two world-class partners on the piano in a number of selections on the CD. Rare pleasures sung to vocal perfection – a true discovery!

"Bis willekommen" by Ensemble Nobiles

Songs and Motets for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany

The CD spans a time from the silent beginning of the ecclesiastical year on the first Advent, through Christmas jubilation to the prophetic Epiphany.

Beside motets and song arrangements from the Renaissance, there are instrumental compositions specially written for the vocal quintet.

"Eine Deutsche Messe"

This recording features Ferdinand Schubert’s four-part male chorus treatment of one of the most popular unaccompanied musical settings of the Mass Ordinary, the Deutsche Messe (German Mass) by Franz Schubert. Complementing the Mass are works from the Renaissance, Romanticism and modernism.

"Hugo Distler" by Ensemble Nobiles and Sjaella
